Service Description

Class Dates: Aug 6th- Aug 27th Time: 6-9:30pm Get ready to bring so many bits in this 4 week handle class. Perfect for almost any level, this class equips you with the techniques to take and bring handles of all shapes and sizes. There are many types of glass handles: mug handles, jug handles, and floating handles and we will be covering them all. With an emphasis on repetition for the assistant and the gaffer, students will add multiple handles onto a single blown vessel to learn how to manage the handle after it is applied and how to keep the blown vessel from warping. Build up skills in managing heat for bit bringing, shaping bits using tweezers and copper tubes, as well as how to proportion out glass to get the desired handle dimensions. Gain tips and tricks on how to get a handle on straight by using chalk, soap stones, and copper tubes. Proportion is the name of the game so for each type of handle we will start with a drawing at the beginning of each class, then move on with how to shape and bring the handle as the assistant and lastly how to attach the handle. Class 1: small handles attaching bottom to top Class 2: small/medium handles attaching top to bottom Class 3: large pitcher handles/floating handles Class 4: Making your own design * New small handled diamond shears will be available for this class
