Class level: Intermediate. Prerequisite: Level 4, or equivalent.
Service Description
Session dates: Sept 8- Oct 18( 6 weeks) Prerequisite is Level 4 or level 5 or equivalent of 1-2 years of glass experience This is section 1 of 3 Section 1 of ISW, intermediate skills workshop, will be covering mugs and color applications including overlays and supio. Students will learn how to take and bring handles, add a solid foot while maintaining shape on all added bits. This a great skill building for learning how to bring and take bits while practicing on a smaller shape and brushing up on overlays and solid feet This is weekly class running 6 weeks on Tuesday from 6:30-9:30 or Thurs 6:30-9:30pm and Sunday from 12:30-3:30pm. All 3 classes have the same curriculum which will include demonstrations in each class followed by hands on practice time for the students. Students may switch to the Sun/ Thurs class based on availability if you cannot make a class on sun. Syllabus Section 1: Mugs: Hello, handle! Week 1 , Tues Sept 8, and Thurs Sept 10, Sun Sept 13 Intro: lecture on design, drawing, proportions - tableware set Demo: Handles on a solid post, demo first how to bring a handle, demo taking a handle( bottom to top)- take a handle with a too hot core( too hot), take a handle that has been marvered too much( too cold), take a handle with the correct set up ( just right) Exercise: Students marver a cylinder on a punty rod to practice putting 4 handles on, have another student bring all 4 handles Week 2 Tues Sept 15, and Thurs Sept 17, Sun Sept 20 Demo: blown sphere with solid feet + handle if time Exercise L1: Practice taking solid dropped foot on sphere multiple times L2: Solid dropped foot and add 4 handles- careful not to over heat or sphere will warp Week 3 Tues Sept 22, and Thurs Sept 24, Sun Sept 27 Demo: handle on blown cup- demo warping the cup from over heat after handle is applied Exercise: L1 thicker cylinder cup - punty- open- handles L2 cup - solid foot optional- punty- open- handles Week 4 , Tues Sept 2, and Thurs Oct 1, Sun Oct 4 Demo: overlay/ supio set up - teacher uses opaque Week 5 Tues Oct 6, and Thurs Oct 8, Sun Oct 11 Demo: picking up supio using a collar, go over making a collar and controlling diameter, go over pick up options in garage, and color box Demo: how to make a collar, bringing up supio in the garage or using the color box, Week 6 Tues Oct 13 , and Thurs Oct 15, Sun Oct 18 Design your own - no demo unless requested, time is split up between number of students and each student gets to make a mug
