Service Description

Session dates: Sept 9th- Dec 16( 14 weeks) skips 11/25* Prerequisite is Level 4 or level 5 or equivalent of 1-2 years of glass experience This 14 week session will cover goblets. Main goals of this class are repetition and gaining skills around blowing and maintaining thin glass. Each student will learn how make a pulled cup, add on avolios, drop and blow a stem, flip open a blown foot as well as how to bring it all together by assembling parts in the garage. The session is split into 3 sections. Section 1: Pulled cups and Avolios, Section 2: Blown Stems and Feet and Section 3: Garage Assembly. This is weekly class running 14 weeks on Tuesday from 6:30-9:30 or Thurs 6:30-9:30pm and Sunday from 12:30-3:30pm. All 3 classes have the same curriculum which will include demonstrations in each class followed by hands on practice time for the students. Students may switch to the Tues/ Thurs class based on availability if you cannot make a class on sun. Syllabus Section 1: Pulled Cup + Avolio Week 1 Pulled cup on the pipe- clear no optics *goal is to practice working thin and end up with a good small jackline Week 2 Pulled cup + punty and open Week 3 Avolios - single disc and 2 part-practice on punties *goal to first get good at bringing avolio bits and then taking Week 4 Pulled cup + avolio - on the pipe * goal is to make multiple Week 5 Pulled cup + avolio+ punty + open- emphasis on punty release *Students anneal everything to use as parts for practicing garage assembly Week 6 Cup + avolio + punty + open *Students must have 2 clear cups made- option to use color after both cups are made Section 2: Blown Stems + Feet Week 1 Blown feet on a punty *Cut off each foot and make another one on the same punty Week 2 Cup+ avolio+ foot + open *Goal to open a foot on the avolio Week 3 Cup+ avolio + stem *Practice shaping dropped stem with no added air Week 4 Cup + avolio + stem + foot *goal to practice adding all parts while maintaining heat Week 5 Blown stem+ foot on pipe *Anneal everything to be used for garage assembly Section 3 : Garage Assembly Week 1 Using the garage + assemble premade cup and foot *Load 1 cup + 1 stem into garage for each student Week 2 Make blown stem + assemble premade cup onto stem using spatula Week 3 Design your own- make your own goblet- no demo, time is split equally among students Students can use color, optics, supio, or sculptural parts *Goal is to assemble a cup + stem of any type
