ISW Thursday - Fall Section 3

Service Description

Session dates: Nov 29-Dec 17( 3 weeks) Prerequisite is Level 4 or level 5 or equivalent of 1-2 years of glass experience This is section 3 of 3 Section 3 of ISW, intermediate skills workshop, will be covering spinning out plates. Students have the option to add on a solid foot. Building off the bowl set up, students will add heat and centrifugal force to form the plates. This 3 week class will slowly build up in size from 6in plates to 8-10in plates to using color. This class is the final step to creating a complete set in our table ware set collection. This is weekly class running 6 weeks on Tuesday from 6:30-9:30 or Thurs 6:30-9:30pm and Sunday from 12:30-3:30pm. All 3 classes have the same curriculum which will include demonstrations in each class followed by hands on practice time for the students. Students may switch to the Sun/ Tues class based on availability if you cannot make a class on Thurs. Syllabus Section 3 : Plates: Spinning while in control (Classes now run sun, tues, and thurs) Week 1 Sun Nov 29, Tues Dec 1, and Thurs Dec 3, Demo: 6-7 in platters - double dip gather- only 3 in diameter on the pipe, aiming for even walled bubble Exercise: each student makes 2-3 small 6in platters, aim to only take 10 min each Goal for repetition to practice out spinning - size is not the priority Goal learn how bubble thickness effects spin out Control final diameter by choice of turning speed Week 2 Sun Dec 6, Tues Dec 8, and Thurs Dec 10, Exercise: 8-10 in platter, starter bubble + gather, 4-5 in diameter on pipe, add solid foot Exercise: each student does 1 or 2 8-10in platters, students have the option to add on a foot or leave it off Goal turning speed with a bigger set up * Reminder: Give instructor supio or any bar color for next week Week 3 Sun Dec 13, Tues Dec 15, and Thurs Dec 17 Design your own - no demo unless requested, time is split up between number of students and each student gets to make a platter, students can use supio from first section for color or any frit or bar color think about overall design for the set
