Service Description

Session dates: Mar 8th- April 5th( 5 weeks) Prerequisite is Level 4 or level 5 or equivalent of 1-2 years of glass experience This is section 2 of 3 Section 2 will cover bottles progressing in size from a small perfume size bottle to a short necked oil bottle to a long necked decanter. Emphasis in section 2 will be how different set ups naturally lead into different shapes of bottles. This is weekly class running 6 weeks on Tues from 6:30-9:30 or Thurs 6:30-9:30pm and Sunday from 12:30-3:30pm. All 3 classes have the same curriculum which will include demonstrations in each class followed by hands on practice time for the students. Students may switch to the Tues/ Thurs class based on availability if you cannot make a class on sun. Syllabus Week 1 Sun Mar 08, Tues Mar 10, and Thurs Mar 12 Demo: Double dip small bottle on pipe using round jacks- show mexican punty Exercise: each student does 3 bottle pulls on the pipe- can punty up and open on the 3rd one Week 2 Sun Mar 15, Tues Mar 17, and Thurs Mar 19 Demo: 6-8in bottle with starter bubble and one gather over- short to medium neck (2-4in), demo squatting up body to make a decanter shape and demo hanging down to turn body into a cylinder for a wine bottle shape Exercise: Each student makes 1-2 bottles on the pipe only Goal for each student to practice pulling the neck on the pipe while keeping the body on center Week 3 Sun Mar 22, Tues Mar 24, and Thurs Mar 26 Demo: 6-8in bottle with starter bubble and one gather over- short to medium neck (2-4in) demo emphasis on finishing the neck on the punty- demo sofie and how it effects the shoulder Exercise: Each student makes one bottle from start to finish Goal: how to shape neck and shoulder of bottle at the same time with a short neck Week 4 Sun Mar 29, Tues Mar 31, and Thurs April 02 Demo: 6-10in bottle with starter bubble and one gather over- long neck (4-6in)- teachers go over reservoir of glass on the bottom needed for long neck Exercise: Each student makes 1 long neck bottle from start to finish Goal for students to understand set up difference from short neck bottle to long neck bottle Week 5 Sun April 05, Tues April 07, and Thurs April 09 Design your own bottle - each student gets equal amount of time to make their own bottle from their own design - color can be used- students are allowed to use any frit from the silver cabinets
