Join this exploratory 4 week stained glass course to combine glass from other glass disciplines, 3D stained glass sculpture, and basic soldering skills to merge interests from multiple glass styles into one project. This course is meant for those with no experience, previous experience stained glass experience, or those with experience in any glass medium. Students will learn the basics of the copper foil stained glass technique which lends itself for traditional window pieces as well as crafting 3D stained glass sculptures. Taking inspiration from mixing different glass mediums together, this course delves into methods to transform cane, shards, cast-offs, rondels, and other glass remnants into stained glass panels and three-dimensional objects. This course offers glassblowers, flame workers, mosaic artists, and fusers an opportunity to bring their existing glass practice into a new format while giving discarded or broken pieces a second life. In the first week of this course, students are encouraged to bring in glass shards, cane, sheet glass, or any glass pieces they are interested in incorporating into a project. Any kind of glass will do for stained glass, there is not a limit on which COE it is. The teacher will demo all of the essential stained glass skills to give the students basic understanding of how to solder two pieces of glass together. Students will then begin to develop project proposals in the first session with help from the instructor. Using a kiln, students will have the option to melt glass shards flat during the first class, to make them easier to incorporate into the projects. For the remaining weeks, instruction may also cover cold working, wire wrapping, and fusing techniques in order to support the many crazy ideas that may commence. The instructor will review each student's project proposal in the first class. Students can propose a project to start during the class and finish on their own time through rentals. Project do not have to be finished by the end of the 4 weeks.

This helps us guarantee stable wages for our hard-working artist instructors. If a cancellation occurs 10 days or more before the start of class, please submit a written request to operations@publicglass.org as soon as you know of a possible conflict. Your account will be credited with the cost of the class. You can apply this credit to a future class, our online shop, or event. Please email operations@publicglass.org to use the credit on your account. Excessive rescheduling will result in an administrative fee. ​ Online class registration closes 2 days before the first session. As a small nonprofit, our goal is to keep access to the studios affordable and to employ the independent artists who have committed to teach you. Monetary refunds are issued at the discretion of management. In the rare case that we are able to issue a refund, our processing platforms will keep a minimum of 10% non-refundable fees. Keeping the credit on your account is highly encouraged. It ensures that you get to keep 100% of your credit while supporting our artists and community. Thank you for your support and understanding.
